SHOT TYPES  ESTABLISHING SHOT ã This is used at a beginning of a sequence to show the viewer the location. They can often use landmarks to help the audience recognise where it is set, if based in a non-fiction setting. ã The technological development of drones has made it easier for low budget and independent film companies to create more professional and high budget establishing shots, without the use of expensive cranes and helicopters. The Conjuring (2013)  CLOSE UP ã This is a shot that only focusses on the face, filling most the frame, it is mostly used to convey the emotion/reaction of a character. ã They can be used to create tension in horror films by the character staring down the camera. ã They can invoke intimacy with the audience as their emotions clearly displayed, such as being able to get sympathy if they are crying. The Blair Witch Project (1999)  EXTREME CLOSE-UP ã This is zoomed in to show a specific detail, filling the whole frame, such as a facial feature, like the eye to show an emotion. ã It is used to emphasis something on an object such as writing. ã They are done using macro lenses, this means that it can be very zoomed in, without effecting the quality of the shot, this can create a sense of intimacy for the audience. Psycho (1960)
