Created 8/21/2013 INFORMATION Based on a change in Florida Statute (F.S.) 1009.25 (2) regarding fee exemptions, Miami Dade College (MDC) will have alimited number of out-of-state tuition waivers for students who have been granted Deferred Action for ChildhoodArrivals (DACA) under prosecutorial discretion of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Effective FallTerm 2013, students who have been granted DACA status may qualify to have the out-of-state portion of their tuitionwaived via a tuition waiver. Once the DACA out-of-state tuition waiver is approved and applied to DACA students’ accounts, they will be responsible for the in-state tuition portion after all other scholarships, financial aid, grants andFlorida Prepaid College Plan funds (if applicable) have been applied. The waiver may be combined with otherinstitutional scholarships. DACA out-of-state waivers apply beginning Fall Term 2013 and are not retroactive .Receipt of the DACA out-of-state tuition waiver does not constitute classification as a Florida resident for tuitionpurposes and does not necessarily qualify the recipient for such classification in the future. Students who are eligible forthe DACA out-of-state tuition waiver will remain classified as out-of-state for tuition purposes. The DACA out-of-statetuition waiver does not cover special fees such as those for aviation, culinary arts, nursing or any of the allied healthprograms and is not disbursable in cash. DACA students must apply for the DACA out-of-state tuition waiver each term in which they enroll (on or after Fall2013). The availability of these waivers is very limited. Therefore, applications will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis. Waiver availability is neither guaranteed nor implied. Students found not to meet the DACA out-of-statetuition waiver will be held responsible for the out-of-state amount. The same applies to anyone submitting false orfraudulent information/documents. DACA non-resident tuition waiver criteria To qualify for the DACA non-resident tuition waiver, DACA students must:1)   Be admitted to an MDC degree-seeking program and registered for credit classes required for that program in theFall Term 2013 or thereafter at MDC.2)   Maintain a minimum 2.00 term GPA, as well as a minimum 2.00 cumulative GPA as shown on the academictranscript.3)   Meet all Florida residency for tuition purposes requirements, with the exception of the USCIS status as listed on theMDC web site(http://www.mdc.edu/main/flresidency/), or have graduated from a Florida high school or have attended another Florida state college or university for at least 12 consecutive months before the first day of classesfor the MDC term in which the DACA non-resident tuition waiver is sought (but not earlier than Fall 2013). Studentsmust request final, official transcripts to be sent directly to MDC. To determine the first day of classes, refer to theMDC Academic Calendar, available at http://www.mdc.edu/main/academics/academic_calendar.aspx.  4)   Complete the DACA out-of-state tuition waiver application each term and present it, along with the unexpired, srcinal USCIS form I-797 (Notice of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals  – I821/I821D), which indicates theDeferred Action has been approved, to an MDC campus Admissions and Registration Office prior to the first day of classes for the term in which the waiver is sought (but not earlier than Fall 2013).DACA students may apply for the DACA out-of-state tuition waiver, as long as all documentation is dated and receivedprior to the first day of class for the term in which the waiver is sought. Students can re-apply for the waiver insubsequent terms, as long as they continue to meet the DACA out-of-state tuition waiver criteria and academicrequirements noted above.
