Edgewood Park Historic District From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Edgewood Park Historic District  is a historic district in NewHaven, Connecticut. It was listed on the National Register of HistoricPlaces in 1986. In 1986, it included 231 contributing buildings, 4other contributing structures, and 1 contributing object. [1] Work by architect DonaldGrant Mitchell isrepresented. [1] According to its 1986 NRHP nomination:Edgewood Par k HistoricDistrict is New Haven'sfinest, most intact andcohesive example of a largeresidential neighborhoodwhose initial developmentwas actively fostered  bythe city under the designand planning tenetsembodied by the latenineteenth-century CityBeautiful movement, amovement designed toachieve an harmonious balance  between thenatural and builtenvironment within thecontext of the urbansetting. [2] The district borders theDwight Street HistoricDistrict on the east. [2] The district includes Edgewood Park  , including memorials for theSpanish-American War and the Holocaust. The park's current layoutwas designed in 1910 by Frederick Law Olmsted, Jr., [3]  son of Frederick Law Olmsted. The district also includes the central portionof the Edgewood  neighborhood, which is generally the area bounded by Whalley Avenue, Sherman Avenue, Chapel Street, andEdgewood Park.
